First Dana Made It over at MADE
Now it’s my turn!
{I actually made this at the beginning of the summer, but am just now getting around to posting it}
A super-cute, super-simple, super-practical summer swimsuit coverup.

This had been on my “to make” list for about a year, so it was nice to finally make it and use it!
It’s made with a store bought towel {Target last year, if you’re curious} and elastic thread. Couldn’t be easier! The hardest part is winding that bobbin a bunch of times with the elastic thread. Be sure to check out Dana’s tutorial.
I did, however, deviate ever so slightly from the tutorial directions.
I’m not exactly sure what Dana used for the straps, but in a effort to think outside of the box {I’m such a rule follower!}, I came up with my own strap idea. I grabbed one of Nolan’s old white t-shirts and cut six long strips. Since knit won’t fray, I knew I was in business. I just braided those strips together and attached them for straps. I really love how they turned out!
Also in the original tutorial, she sewed it all the way down the side. I figured I might want a wider range of motion. So instead, I overlapped the sides and only sewed together the top elasticated part. However, it’s a little too gapey for me, so I have plans to go back and sew the seam down to about mid-thigh. {Yes, summer is now coming to a close and I still “have plans” to fix that!}
And since we’re talking about suits and coverups – does anyone else have a really hard time finding decent swimwear? Goodness! I was in desperate need of a new swimsuit this year {it had been almost 4 years since I’d bought a new suit}, and I’ve had the hardest time finding something that’s not super-low on top. Or something that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. I ended up with a cute skirted tankini from Kohl’s {which I cannot find online! and I certainly won’t be modeling!}. It reminds me of some of the Shabby Apple suits – namely a ruffle or two and teal. And I’m really digging the skirt! Swimsuit + skirt does not always = cute, but it does in this case ~ promise!
Does anyone out there have a source for cute, yet modest, swimsuits? I’m all ears!
And be sure to pop over to Dana’s to learn how to make your own beach towel dress.

I still love this…and it’s even cuter IRL
Adorable swimsuit coverup!! I love landsend for modest and fashionable bathing suits! They are a little pricey, but you can catch sales and free shipping codes if you receive their catalogs. You can also return at sears!
Thanks! Yeah, I like Lands End too, but I was kind of disappointed with them this year… I forgot you could return to Sears! It might be worth at least trying something from there since it’d be easy to return.
That is the cutest cover-up I’ve ever seen! Great job!
lands end here. catch their overstocks. can return to sears stores. will last forever! esp the faille fabric (but heavy when wet and doesn’t dry quickly) but makes one look thinner!
I’ve never tried the fialle. Thanks for the tip!
i want one!!!!!
Girl, didn’t you get a sewing machine? You could totally do this! It’s soooo easy.
Very cute! And I recognized the towel immediately from Target. Is that bad?
Thanks for sharing!
Bad? Not at all! I love Target…
Thanks for stopping by!
