Baking a Cupcake Shirt

My baby girl is turning one on Wednesday. As in – tomorrow.

Can we just have a moment of silence as that sinks in?

I still cannot believe it’s been a year already since she was born! But… I’m not ready to discuss that… So moving on!

I baked maked {yes, I know that’s not a word} a cupcake shirt this weekend! Wanna see?

Sometime this summer, I saw this adorable cupcake shirt on Semi Charmed Kinda Wife and fell.in.love! Love, love, love the ribbon “frosting!” {She did it with a glue gun…smart chica.} I immediately pinned it on my Pinterest DIY board knowing I’d have to make one for Miss M!

And since Miss M’s birthday {that I am choosing to forget about} is coming up, I knew it was time for me to give it a try!

And I’m SO thrilled!

I used a hand-me-down shirt and scraps I had on hand. And even though it wasn’t intentional, I ended up using scrap fabric from Miss M’s crib skirt and pom-pom trim from her curtains. When I love something, I guess I really love it, huh?

To make the bottom part of the cupcake, I ruffled the top and bottom of a piece of fabric {the bottom a little bit of a tighter ruffle than the top} and then ironed it flat. Using {my favorite crafting product in the whole wide world!} Fabri-Tac, I glued everything to the shirt. The frosting is just a long ribbon that I twisted and glued and turned and glued and swirled and glued and… {you get the idea}. It was all a matter of playing around. Then I tossed the pom-pom trim in there because it is just too adorable.

Now Miss M can celebrate her…let’s not talk about it…birthday in cutie-patootie style!

PS – The pictures…it was raining and cloudy and it wouldn’t stop and I couldn’t wait to get better pictures because I really wanted to show you! The shirt is adorable on the blog, but even cuter in real life.

PPS – No, the Fabri-tac makers don’t pay me to rave about their product. Not that I would mind if they did… :)

PPPS – Happy November! {I’m in a slightly giddy mood, can you tell?}

    What a great idea. I used to paint on t-shirts…takes too long to dry…if you sew this is quite the genius design!
