New Year’s Goals: 12 in ’12

Welcome Nesting Place friends! At the beginning of 2012 I put together a list of 12 things I’d like to accomplish this year. While not all of them are home related, quite a few of them are!

Happy New Year!

And with the New Year comes…resolutions.

Right?

Do you make New Year’s resolutions?

I admit, I’m not much of a New Year’s resolution kind of gal. Thing is, I tend to forgot what I’ve resolved and therefore never follow through! Ha, ha! So much for that, right?

But this year there are a few goals I want to accomplish. Kind of like my 30 Before 30, this can be my 12 in ’12. There are so many other things I’d like to tackle in my personal, emotional, and spiritual life, but I don’t want to make them goals – those kinds of things, I just want to be in constant state of growth. So these goals are more tangible finish line kind of goals {if that even makes sense}.

Without further ado, I present – my 12 in ’12!

1. Work up the nerve and take a beginner’s ballet class for adults. :::gulp::: I think I just admitted that publicly… {I figure I need to do this before another Q baby comes along, so there’s no time like the present!}

2. Read at least a book a month. This shouldn’t be too much of a problem considering the sheer amount of books I read last year. {Grand total of 64!}

3. Join up with Booking It {an online book club} and {for the most part} read each suggested book of the month.

4. Finish up the master bedroom all ready! The big things I’d like to accomplish are: artwork, accessories, and something for the TV.

5. Polish Mr B’s room. I haven’t spent any time on it since we first moved him into that room, and it could use some love. It’s got great potential, and some great things already going on, I just need to polish it up. I’d love to add something like this light:

6. Tackle the projects in One Bite at a Time: 52 Projects for Making Life Simpler by Tsh Oxenreider the blog author of Simple Mom. I just finished reading it {in two days! who knew this kind of book could be a page turner?}, and it was excellent!! Now I need to go back and do the projects. I don’t think I’ll be able to do one project a week, but I want to work towards completing as many relevant projects as possible this year. Some of the topics include: drinking more water, establishing evening and morning routines, get more sleep, organize your files, switch to non-toxic chemicals, dump your brain, and so, so, so many other wonderful projects to help streamline and simplify your life. I’m sure you’ll be hearing more about this book from me.

7. Paint the master bathroom. I’ve had the paint for over a year. I need to get it done!

8. Work hard to spend less.

9. Get away – somehow, someway – long or short. Just take some time to step back and recharge.

10. Organize my closet. Purge. Buy staples that I need. Get rid of stuff I never wear. I’d love for it to look more like Nicole’s closet from Making it Lovely.

11. Buy hampers for the master bathroom and T’s room {and maybe the kid’s bathroom}. It’s the little things, people. These are pretty much out of my price range, but I’d love a couple of them anyway!

12. Make or buy window treatments for the living room. {Extra credit if I get to the family room too.} I love this fabric, but I haven’t decided if it’s “the one” yet.

So what about you? Do you have any goals or resolutions for the New Year? Are you like me and fall off the resolution train before you even start? Wanna join me and strive towards 12 in ’12? It breaks down nicely into one goal a month {if you wanna do it that way}. I’d love it if you came along!

    I love all your goals and was impressed that you read 64 book while managing 3 kiddos! However, I’m not too surprised because you’ve always loved to read. :) Let me know if you do the ballet…I want to do hip-hop! LOL.
    Love you!

    Love the fabric and the lighting!! It’s going to be great. Can’t wait to see how everything turns out!

  3. Fun goals. I used to read so much and miss it, the one book a month goal seems doable. And, I live in Curacao so you should come visit! A few blog friends and I introduced a new challenge idea Monday and it would be so fun if you want to join.
