{I love alliteration!}
So it’s been awhile since I’ve talked about the half bath remodel. Let’s end that radio silence today, shall we?
Paint. It’s a crazy wonderful thing. It really has the power to transform a room.
I am not the paint picker-outer master by any stretch of the imagination! It takes time and trial and error.
I was dreaming up my dream powder room and trying to decide on colors. And I was all “ohhh…let’s paint the vanity a pretty blue-green! and then I can paint the wall behind it an accent color like coral! and maybe give the coral wall a strie effect! it will be fun and vibrant and different! but I don’t want coral on all the walls, so I’ll do sand on all the other walls.”
Yeah………cra.zay.ness. You’re so much smarter than I am for picking up on that right away.
It wasn’t until I did this little mock up that I realized how crazy that idea was.
Hello, welcome to the carnival! Lol!
It was wayyyyyyy too much for that little room!
So. That left me? No where.
I really didn’t want a white vanity. I really, really didn’t.
But then I got to thinking and I realized “if I put the blue-green on the walls, the gold I want to accent with will really pop. The white isn’t so terrible, and with the sink it could be really fab!”
So there we are – white vanity. Decision – Done.
Let me just pause right here :::pause::: {end pause} and say that when I told my Dad about the blue-green, his first response was “paint the vanity white, paint the top a goldy yellow, paint the walls blue-green.”
I was all “noooooo! that’s so boring!”
:::rolls eyes:::
Isn’t there a saying about Father’s knowing best? ::grin::
Right about in here was when I found this inspiration picture on Pinterest {which I showed you before}.

I loved the moody blue-green with the gold. Loved! LOVED!
So began THE HUNT FOR THE PERFECT MOODY BLUE-GREEN.
I didn’t want the color to be dead and drab, but…I wanted it to be moody in a sophisticated way.
I picked up every single remotely possible blue-green paint chip from Home Depot. And then did the same thing at Benjamin Moore. Scads of paint chips.
See? And that’s not even all of them.
And then the perfect one just popped off the wall, and I knew it was going to be “the one!”
{Forewarned is forearmed – or something like that – so be forewarned that these pictures are ghastly because of the light.}
Willow Branch by The Master Pallette from Benjamin Moore was the winner!
If I’m doing things right, I always buy a sample. It’s much cheaper to make a mistake with $6 {or $2 and change from Home Depot} than to make a mistake with $20. So I bought a sample.
And things came to a grinding halt. I think I nearly cried.
This pictures is so lame. It doesn’t do it justice. But take my word for it. It was baaaaaad.
Hello, mint chocolate chip ice cream, why are you in my bathroom?
UGH!
Mint Green! Not my thing! {At least not outside of an ice cream bowl.}
Out came all the paint chips again. Up they got taped back up to the wall.
Aha!
Palladian Blue by Benjamin Moore! That was going to be it!
I happened to be in Home Depot, so had them color match a sample for me.
I slapped it up on the walls.
Tangent: when you’re looking at your paint chips, and when you’re checking your paint samples, it’s SOOOOOO important to do two things: {a} put it on the correct plane {hello, geometry} – meaning if it’s going on the wall, hold it up on the wall, don’t just look at it flat. If you’re painting a tabletop, look at it flat on the table top. The light will make the color look totally different on different planes. {b} try the paint on different walls in your room. The light is going to be different! You may love the color on one wall of the room and hate it on another.
Therefore – I slapped the paint on the wall behind the toilet and the wall behind the vanity.
I LOVED it behind the vanity! It was blueish and perfect!! Love!
I HATED it behind the toilet. Seriously. It looked like mud. Horrors!
Then, dun, dun, dun…
I noticed that someone had removed the light bulb from the little can light above the toilet. Remember what I said about light above? Yeah…
After popping that light bulb back in, I realized I did in fact like Palladian Blue! Yay!
So here ya go… I couldn’t get a decent picture because of the lighting. The pictures were making the paint look so incredibly blah… So I grabbed up the old point and shoot and took some with the flash. It’s a much better representation of the color {but still not great}. Oh, it’s the bottom color you’re looking at. Love it with the gold! {Oh and see the mint green at the top? Yeah…..}
So we’re finally on our way!
Or not.
I can’t paint until we decide on the floor. Boo. But at least the color decision has been made!
Next time in The Chronicles of the Powder Room I’ll tell you why this project has stalled out with the flooring. {Grr!}

I love the color choice!
