Making Succulent Party Favors

This is the last week I’m going to be sharing stuff from my simple party. But I’ve got a couple more things that I just have to share!

Even though party favors aren’t required at a party {especially, a party for grown ups!}, occasionally I think it’s nice. And since this was a party for a small group of friends, I thought it would be fun to send them home with a little something.

Everyone seems to be on the succulent bandwagon {The Nester, Making it Lovely, Life in the Fun Lane – her’s are fake, but amazing!, Young House Love}, so why shouldn’t I hop on as well?

In all fairness to myself, I’ve been wanting to plant some succulents for years {just ask Nolan how many times I’ve dragged him to that little section of Lowes}, but I never did it. So…since they’re so popular, now seemed like a good time!

And since so many people have done a good job of explaining how to do it, I’ll just give you a tutorial of pictures with as few words as possible.

For your Succulent Party Favors you’ll need:

  • Planters {I used small glasses}
  • Soil – from what I’ve gathered succulents need well draining soil. Go with a blend for cacti and you should be fine.
  • Succulents {any assortment you’d like!}
  • Small rocks {optional}

{Planter}

{These are Pokal glasses from IKEA. I think they were around $2 for one package of six.}

{Rocks}

{Rocks add drainage and interest. I don’t think they are necessary though.}

{Dirt}

{Plant}

{Add more dirt on top}

{Water}

{Recruit help to add decorative rocks}

{Finished!}

{Enjoy!}

{Give away!}

    Love this idea! Easier than doing potted flowers, and more likely to survive the less than green thumbs!

    I love this idea, and I am totally stealing it for my wedding party favors, but I am going to do herbs instead of succulents. I did a trial one and you can’t really see the rocks in the bottom, do you think you I could use sand instead? I don’t really know anything about plants, I know they need drainage. They are just favors, and I hate to waste the money on the decorative rocks if I could use sand instead but I want to give the plants a chance to live lol!

    Great party favors. I love succulents too – you can take cuttings from most plants & pot them and they’ll grow into new plants – so if you saved a few for yourself, you could have enough to make another set at a party next year :)

    Where did you find the succulents?
