I spent way too long over the Memorial Day weekend working on a project.
Way too long in that – I had to keep redoing elements because I didn’t get them quite right the first time.
And I had to redo elements because I was a little out of my element working in Corel Draw!
But! I’m soooooooo excited about the end product!
If you follow me on Instagram, you already got a sneak peak!
As part of T’s school curriculum this coming year {we decided on Sonlight – so excited!}, they get to memorize a verse a week that coincides with each letter of the alphabet.
You knew that Psalm 119 was written that way too, right? Each stanza coincides with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
I was inspired by this pin {pinned by another Sonlight mom – check out her homeschool boards!}.
{from Homeschool Creations}
And thought to myself, “self, you could so totally do that!”
{Since their verses didn’t match up with the verses I needed and since Brenda Joy suggested it and all.}
So I did!
{I’m a little ahead of the game since we won’t be starting school again until the fall. Whatevs. Better early than late. Or however that saying goes.}
Each card has the letter on the front and the verse on the back. Great for quoting the verses to Mommy or using the written Word for copy work.
Both of the boys were so excited when they saw the whole thing come together.
“Is that a verse pack?!?! For ME?!?!” Mr B was so thrilled! Isn’t it fantastic when our children are excited about the Scripture?!
{We use verse packs for our Wednesday night program at church – Children Desiring God. That’s why he knew what I was up to.}
And guess what?
Even if you aren’t using Sonlight, you can totally use an ABC verse pack with your children. Use the time when their minds are sponges to get the True Word of God into them!
Even better?
I’m going to share my work with you! {I’ll put download links at the bottom of this post.}
The cards are nice and big for little hands to hold with ease.
Here’s a brief run down on how to assemble them…
- Each page contains 4 verses.
- The cards are double-sided. You will first print one side, then flip your pages over and print the other side. The download files are set up so that you can print all of “side 1″ and then all of “side 2.” Since all printers are different you might want to play around to make sure you get the “a” printed on the front of the “a verse,” etc. I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it! {If you’d like me to configure the files differently, just let me know! This is my first go around with this kind of thing!}
- Because of the margins on my printer, there is a slightly larger border around the edges that you may want to trim off before cutting your cards apart.
- I chose to laminate mine. But you certainly don’t have to. I thought it would be good for durability. You can also use a dry erase marker on them that way.
- I took my whole sheets to FedEx Kinkos to have them laminated. Come to find out, it’s do-it-yourself and they use laminating pouches. If I were to do it again, I would cut each card out first, making sure they are all the same size, and then put four in each pouch. Then you just have to trim the plastic off to the size of the card.
- Considering the fact that I paid $20 to have these laminated and I’ll probably laminate more stuff for school – I’m looking into buying an inexpensive laminating machine. I saw some on Amazon
for $30. I’ve also been checking Craigslist. Word to the wise…
- Nolan used a hole punch to punch a hole in the corner of each card.
- Then I stuck them all on a ring. I found my rings at Office Depot. They are called “binder rings” or “loose leaf rings.” Here’s a link to Amazon
if you’re interested. I think mine are about 2″ diameter, you could use smaller, I just had those in my desk drawer.
- Easy as that!
So here’s the good stuff!

Here’s what the cover will look like. {Silly me forgot to print one! Oops!}

You have saved me SO much work and headache! I was just going over my pins for Core A this week, beginning to print and laminate and organize the things I’ll be using this fall for my kindergartener. Those ABC cards were staring me in the face and I was feeling rather overwhelmed at the thought of trying to figure out how to create them. Nothing I could come up with on my old computer and with my limited software and computer knowledge capabilities could have come close to this.
And thanks for plugging my pinboards!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! I appreciate all of your hard work on these….love that I now have a visual for my son. We are just finishing up Week 1 of Core A so I am so grateful for this. Such great work:)
I love this idea! we will be starting up again with core a in the fall, just finished up week 18… we are taking our time, but I love this idea, and will be implementing it now, so we remember the ones we’ve learned already through out the summer! Thank you for sharing your creativity!
This is awesome! I just downloaded and look forward to using these!
I do not use Pinterest, is there another venue that SL moms share ideas? Perhaps a Yahoo group?
I’m brand new to Sonlight, but I know there is a forum: https://forums.sonlight.com/
There may be other places too, but I haven’t found them yet.
The Sonlight forums are the primary place to go. Besides basic community forums, there are Core specific forums and subject-specific forums as well. Run by Sonlight Curriculum, they are free if you have purchased an Instructor’s Guide, a full Core, or $150 in a single purchase. You can also purchase membership in the forum separately if you haven’t made a qualifying purchase. The cost is comparable to purchasing a magazine subscription.
I’ve been a part of the Sonlight forums for over twelve years and have a Lifetime Membership. I plan to stick around for a long time (my youngest is only 5!). The support, encouragement and advice I’ve gotten both for homeschooling and for life stuff is invaluable.
Here’s a link to pricing information for joining the Sonlight forums: http://www.sonlight.com/forum-membership.html
You have just made my day. I am due in a few weeks and I have been looking for things to gift my son each day with his grandparents until I come home and so he does not feel left out. I could just cry….this will help so much. Thank you so much….Lord give me strength to get it completed.
Jenna, something occurred to me as I was preparing these…
I don’t know how difficult this would be for you to do…
I realized as I was laminating mine and cutting them apart, that the way you have it formatted makes it difficult if you lose one card or damage it. One has to print four cards to get one. Also, some people might prefer to have these in a larger size. Would it be difficult to offer these in a format where they are one per page (8.5 X 11)? Then if someone wanted to print a large size they could. Also, if a couple got lost or damaged, it would be pretty easy to pick which individual cards to print, and then just format their printer to size them to 1/4 page if they are doing the smaller size.
What you’ve done here is awesome and I know took a lot of work. So don’t go crazy on this idea of mine, but if it’s just a matter of a couple clicks to offer a different size format, I suspect it would be popular too.
(and I don’t know how many repins you’ve gotten, but my pin of your cards has gotten a LOT of traffic!
)
Brenda…That’s a thought! If I get some time this weekend, I’ll try playing around with that! Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi! I can’t find the link to the non-verse side. I printed it out a few days ago, and now I don’t see it on your page. Please, help! Thanks!
Sorry for the confusion! There were initially two options, one that said “Sonlight” and one that didn’t. It was brought to my attention that without Sonlight’s permission that might be an issue to use their name, so I choose to take it down. There is still the option with the plain cover it is right above the picture of the cover. Hope that helps. Maybe I’ll add an arrow or something.
I tried to download but cannot get cover card or the letters only side. Can you assist. Thanks
Sooooo sorry! Not sure what I did to make it not work. Anyhow….it’s working now!
Thank you so much for this! Such a gift, printed it out and got it already for my new kinder!
We are on our 4th week of Core A. Love these cards. Printing now.
Thank you so much! These are wonderful!
Hi Jenna, I just wanted to let you know that I am going to share this post on our church’s blog. I’m in the rotation to post for our women’s ministry day on the blog. And I know a lot of our ladies home school and/or would really appreciate this neat tool for their kids. The post will be for this Saturday and our church is Redeemer Community Church in Pittsburgh http://www.redeemerpgh.org
I enjoy your blog! I’m friends with Sarah from back at Faith Baptist Church in DE.
Just downloaded these to use when we do this core again this fall. Thank you!
Thank you so much for preparing these. I just wanted to let you know that I did find an error on one of the cards. The “T” card Bible verse is missing two words. It currently says “lean your own understanding” instead of “lean NOT ON your own understanding”. I’m not sure how much work it is to correct, but I thought you’d like to know.
Thank you for these! I just ordered Core A a half hour ago, and then I found your link to these in the forums.
YOU ROCK! Thanks so much for these!
Found these while looking for something similar for Core p4/5. Downloading yours for later:) thanks.
Thank you so much! I know these were a ton of work. We just finished up Sonlight K and these will be a great tool for review throughout grade 1. I really appreciate your effort! (And they’re cute, too!)
Hey. I love these cards but I am not computer saavy and I printed them last night. They printed all the verses except p. 6,7….then when I went in to print these 2 pages even with “current “page or pages 6-7 option they want to start over from the beginning. Any thoughts? I just hate to waste the ink and print them all again….Thanks if you know how to make it happen if not I appreciate the cards…they are great!
Just printed out these cards and soooo excited. We do Children Desiring God at our church.
Thank you for all of your hard work on these!
Thanks so much for taking the time to make and share these!! They are GREAT! I just printed them. . .will be a wonderful tool to use this year!!
Thank you so much for providing these! Just what I was looking for.
I can’t thank you enough for providing these…they are beautiful, and exactly what I would have imagined making if I had any talent in creating things like that at all… we are excited to start Core A!! You have made my year!!! Thank you thank you!!!
Thanks for putting these up! I’m downloading and excited to try them with my 2 preschool age boys!
Ooh! Thank you so much! I am starting Core A with my two boys and was wishing I could make cards just like this for them…then I found your blog from the Sonlight forum. They are perfect! I am going to print them out:)
Thank you so much for putting the work into these. I couldn’t figure out a way to print both the covers and the verses on the same page. The way my printer feeds the paper through kept messing it up but as a solution I just printed out the verse side of the card. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for these! I found your site on Pinterest and I have printed out the cards to use with my daughter. I had a book with similar verses when I was a child. Thanks for sharing!
I am so excited to run across this blog! My husband and I have been praying about homeschooling our children for quite some time but had not had a peace about it until this year. I will be starting next year (grades 5and 2) since they have already begun school this year plus we have a 3 and1 year old at home. We are seriously looking at Sonlight curriculum and would LOVE any info on it! Would you recommend buying the whole package or just using all different curriculums? I feel like fish out of water with it all! Any info would be so great! I will be making these alphabet cards very soon! It is never too early to hide God’s word in their hearts!Thank you!!
I have downloaded them! They look great! I want to make them for my little cousins for Christmas. My Aunt and Uncle are not Christians, but believe they are good people and will go to Heaven. I know they won’t mind me giving this to their kids, but I hope they are willing to use them, but the Word of God is powerful and can change the hearts of each one. Thanks for your hard work with these. I believe they will be a seed into the salvation process of my family members!
Janelle
Downloaded them and printed them out successfully on the first try! Thanks for making this available to all! I am so appreciative of the time and effort that this must have taken, God bless!
Hi Jenna, I volunteer at an ESL adult- program and I have been perusing the scriptures every week to find ones that begin with ABC to bless my students, and to make learning English applicable to real life! I was so excited to find them already made–THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Your hard work is going to reap eternal rewards!
From a grandma who is not very computer savvy, I do thank you for your hard work for for sharing your expertise~~what a treasure to lay up in the Kingdom Of Heaven~~big thoughts for little minds in the name of Jesus. Thank you!
OHMIGOSH! I have four nieces and a nephew on the way and I hate just giving toys and clothes. Now this is something I can give them with eternal value!! AND you’ve done the hard part!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! I can’t begin to express my gratitude!!!
Thank you for your hard work and being willing to share it with others. You are a blessing!
Thank you so much for your creativity and hard work and for sharing.
Thank you for making printables that help with Bible memorization
Thank you SO much! I had something similar when I was growing up and I still remember most of those verses today. I actually still have the cards, but they’re falling apart (they weren’t laminated)
I passed this post along to a few homeschool friends of mine too. Such a blessing….thanks again!
Thank you so much for the hard work you put into these ABC Bible Verse Cards. Just what I was looking for to use with my daugher
I downloaded your chosen verses, and plan to make a flip chart of verses for each of my 5 grandchildren for Easter. I hope I can get it done in time. What a wonderful idea…wish I had had this for my own children. Thank you for your work in putting it together and sharing it with others…you are surely doing God’s work!
I love your ABC Verse Cards.
Love the cards. Cant wait to try them
Just printed these to use with Core A this year, thanks!!!
Thanks for your hard work on this! I can’t wait to use them with my two children.
Thanks so much for this inspiration!!! This is my first year of homeschooling and I think we are going to have so much fun with these. Thanks again for all your hard work.
