Let’s Get Away – Vacation Edition: Edison’s and Ford’s Winter Estates

It’s been a couple of weeks since we went on vacation to Fort Myers, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have stuff I’ve been longing to share with you! Things like – vacation fashion; DIY inspiration; and a little what we did, where we ate, if you visit kind of guide. It should be fun!

For today…I’d thought I’d share with you what we did the day we arrived. It was right up my alley!

If you like history or old architecture or just enjoying a beautiful estate, you would LOVE the Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers right here in Florida.

This is the second time Nolan and I have visited and we love it every time. Very peaceful and soothing. I just love being there and walking around.

{Love how the palm trees line the road on the way in. That was on Edison’s urging.}

When we were driving down the road that the Estates are on, we were observing the pretty houses. Nolan would say, “that’s a pretty house” and I’d be all “eh…yeah, it’s fine.” Then we drove by one house and my heart skipped a beat and I said, “Honey, I love that house!! You can buy me that house!” Come to find out… that house was Ford’s house. Lol! I’ve always thought I had pretty good taste. ;)

Ford and Edison were friends and had Winter Estates next door to each other. There is also a museum and Ford’s workshop across the street that you can explore and enjoy.

There’s lots of pictures, so I’ll keep the verbiage to a minimum. Enjoy!

In Edison’s workshop. Those bottles!!

Edison’s wife was smart. She had this office built for Edison near the house.

And then she had this moonlight garden {with lots of night blooming plants} installed right behind the office! Smart woman. :)

Can’t you just imagine an evening soiree with your girlfriends in this beautiful garden? Complete with beautiful white dresses and french pastries?

They had a swimming pool…with two diving boards…changing rooms…and an outdoor living space. Living the life, I tell ya!

Their estates are right on the Caloosahatchee river.

They enjoyed boating and also used this pier to unload all the furniture they had shipped in!

The Edison home… so beautiful. Look at the architectural details! Loooooove the porch railings and details.

Ford’s home…

This gorgeous breezeway connected Edison’s home and Ford’s home.

How would you like looking out at this view everyday?

And this? {Well, minus us maybe :) }

Jody and Rachel! {The friends we vacationed with.}

Some inside details… I can’t remember exactly which interior shots went with which house. Sorry…

I want this built-in bookcase like crazy! So beautiful. {This was in Edison’s.}

{Also Edison’s}

Edison’s wife’s room, I believe.

“I think I’ll take a rest on my chaise…”

I was really wishing I could take this sink home with me! They had a matching toilet too.

Who wouldn’t want to put there baby to bed in that beautiful cradle? ::le sigh::

Check out the amazing chandeliers in these homes!

Love the transom above the door in the background too…

Are you worn out after looking at all those beautiful things?

Take a rest…

{Rachel and Jody}

Hey, it’s us!

So, whatda’ya think?! Beautiful, no? There are so many other things I could have shared, these were just my faves.

Did you have a favorite element?

You should definitely visit if you ever make your way to Fort Myers. Here’s a link to their website if you’re interested.

    I love your blog and look at it often, it is a happy little place:) I remember going to one of their homes, I think Edison and I loved the big tree outside. I remember walking through it with my dad when I was small. Thanks for sharing!
