We have a laundry room off the back of our kitchen.
It is an awkward little room.
Don’t get me wrong…
I am SO thankful for this little room!
But, this is what’s awkward about it…
The floor slopes (it’s an old house, so that’s expected)
The ceiling is fairly low.
There’s this little partial wall that sticks out that houses the circuit breaker box.
There are some GREAT things about the room…
It has a great view of our backyard.
It has room for our washer, dryer, a chest freezer, and a hutch (that I keep beach towels, painting supplies, etc in), and shelving for more storage
It’s got some pretty cool black and white checked linoleum (seriously… I like it a lot!)
It gives a place to store our vacuum, floor-mate, broom, [overflowing] recycling container, etc.
Here are a few pictures so you can get an idea of what I’m talking about.
This is the door leading into it, off of the kitchen…
This is straight ahead when you walk in.
(the door to go out to the back patio is there to the left.)The [awesome] floor…
(and dirty rug…)
And this is the ceiling…
Even though the ceiling is low, it’s one of my favorite things about this awkward little room.
I love that it’s wooden slats and that it’s at an angle… it has character.
I could, however, do without that border. LOL
So, here’s what I’m thinking…
I saw this picture on Pinterest quite a while ago:
(via Apartment Therapy)
Check out that ceiling!
I love it.
And even though I love the color, I think it would be too much for this little room and would take away from the view outside.
I grabbed a quart of paint at Ace Hardware when they were giving them away…
The color’s called Ocean Blue, and I picked it out not knowing what I was going to use it for, but I think I’ve found a use for it!
I’ll go back and buy another quart, and that will definitely be enough for this space.
So, there it is.
I’m taking that ‘lovely’ border down,
painting the room,
and then going to town on that ceiling!
That’s my plan.
The fact that the ceiling is so low, will make this project quite a bit easier than if it weren’t.
And the fact that it’s at an angle will display it nicely, even from the kitchen.
So, next time you see my laundry room it will look a bit different!
