Let’s Get Away – Vacation Edition:: DIY Inspiration {Part I}

Why, yes, I am talking about my vacation again. Which probably makes this the longest blogged about vacation ever. But…well…it is what it is. :)

This blogger’s eyes never stop looking for DIY inspiration {or just plain old inspiration for anything}, even while on vacation.

I came home with a handful of ideas that I thought would be fun to DIY or that I was inspired by. Some, I’ll probably never do. But there are a few I’d love to tackle!

Maybe you could use a little vacation-inspired DIY inspiration too?

Here we go!

This fun and funky rain barrel caught my eye at the Edison and Ford Estates.

I’ve been wanting a rain barrel for awhile now, and thought this was a fun way to take it from utilitarian to amazing!

How about these floors that were in a restaurant?

They are just plywood with a dark stain to pull out the grain. Love! This would be a cheap solution for flooring in the right kind of space!

Oh, here’s another one from Edison. They sold “art” of his some of his patents. I thought it would be so cool to buy maybe six of them and make a grid of the art on a wall. Very industrial, but cool too! And you wouldn’t even have to use Edison’s patents…maybe blueprints or some other industrial type drawing would look just as fab.

You already saw this beautiful moonlight garden, but it’s worth showing again! Since we moved in to this house I’ve been dying to install a pond! Complete with fish and flowering plants. …Someday….

Here’s another you saw, but you hear a lot about grouping like items for maximum impact. What about grouping light bulbs? I loooove this display of light bulbs. Very cool in an office or a home with an industrial vibe. Or, you know, for people like me whose husbands love light bulbs {for real, he does!}.

Let’s have a show of hands for everyone who has collected shells on vacation.

Yep, probably quite a few of us.

And then what do you DO with them??!

This sweet dish of pretty shells was in our condo. I love that they piled all those pretty shells in there and made them a decor item. So lovely! And – again with that grouping for maximum impact thing.

This one is kind of funky. I spied this in a local shop where they sell mostly local and handmade products. So cool!

Check out the toast, bacon, and egg pillows!

Too fun. :)

With some sewing skills and some creativity, you could make your own set! {They wouldn’t have a place in my house, but what about a college dorm room or something?}

That’s it for today! I have some other great DIY inspiration lined up for you next week! Including my FAVE inspiration from my vacation {it involves lamps}. Can’t wait to share more!
