Shelf, Art & Baskets {tweaks in the master bath}

Remember when I painted the master bathroom gray last year in an effort to make the dated white tile and black grout work?

And then added some quick modern-ish art?

glidden smooth stoneWell, I’ve been tweaking some more!

And I’ve got to say that I’m pretty happy with how things are coming along!

No, it’s not the dream bathroom I’d love complete with jacuzzi tub.

But as far as actually not minding being in there as opposed to feeling slightly like being  jail or something – I’d say we’re good!

Last year was a major fail in the 12 in ’12 department of finding a clothes hamper for the master bathroom. I didn’t want to settle for something I didn’t like. Does that sound ridiculous when we’re talking about a hamper? Yeah…It makes sense in my head, but typing it sounds hilarious!

An.y.way.

That big ol’ pile of dirty clothes was getting to me, but I held out. And woo, hoo Home Goods for the win! I found a huge beautiful seagrass-looking {the tags says it’s hyacinth} basket.

And, go ahead and call me silly, because – yes – I care about the basket for the dirty clothes. I had some specifics in mind. It had to be: pretty, no lid {I knew that the clothes might not always make it in if it had a lid – reality, people, reality}, and here’s the reallllly funny thing. Because of where is would sits in the room, I didn’t think I wanted it to have squared corners – but – I didn’t want something round. Picky, much?

But here’s the thing. It was worth holding out for! Because I found just exactly the perfectest of perfect baskets!

To fill the wall above the {lovely} basket, I moved the quick art over to that wall.

So all of that makes me happy.

Beauty + function = YAY!

But the part that brings a smile to my face is the other side of the room.

In my initial space dreaming, I wanted to put some kind of dresser or chest or something with drawers on this wall {to the right is the toilet, to the left is a door that goes out to the pool}. But then this little shelf came into my possession.

Believe it or not, it is another free piece of furniture from a client of my dad’s. Different client than the sofa client. Yes, I am extremely blessed! Someday I should do a post on all the free furniture we have been blessed with! Sometimes it’s hard to wait, but the Lord has provided so much furniture that has worked well in our home!

So, yeah, back to the shelf. I put the shelf in there “just to see,” and it’s the perfect thing. A dresser or chest would have been way to big. This is just right.

I ended up buying all three of the seagrass baskets at Home Goods at different times. I didn’t plan to buy baskets that all looked alike, but I’m honestly really loving them. They help unify the room. And that texture…I love it!

Cotton balls, q-tips, lipsticks have all found homes.

That art! Looooove!

Nolan did really well at Christmas and hunted around on my Pinterest boards for gift ideas. {Smart man.}

I’m so glad he chose to buy me the “Top Knot 18” giclee from Elizabeth Mayville. I had my eye on it and just knew I’d use it in the master bathroom. And then it showed up on Christmas. Yay!

I framed it in an IKEA Ribba frame. At first I was going to try to find some kind of navy paper to mount the artwork on, but the only thing I could think of that would be big enough would be wrapping paper. And hunting down navy wrapping paper sounded like a nightmare. So, in a moment of “where did that come from” brilliance, I decided that we could achieve the same look with some spray paint on the board that comes on the back of the frame!

So that’s what we did. Sprayed the backer board navy, and double-stick taped the artwork onto it. Easy as pie.

Okay just a couple more pictures because it makes me happy. :)

I’m not finished tweaking, but it’s getting close! It’s so nice to see the pieces starting to fall into place!
