Who We Are

Who are you?

S:  I’m Sarah (with an ‘h’)… I have the privilege of staying home with my two little kiddos, and my work-from-home husband!

J: I’m Jenna, and I’m a full-time wife to my hard-working hubby, and mama to two little boys and a sweet baby girl.

What is the purpose of this blog?

S:  Oh… I don’t know where to begin here!  LOL  I guess… to give me something to do (as if I need another thing to do!), to have a place to share some fun ideas I may come across, to give me a way to interact with “adults” during my day.

J: I guess there are lots of purposes – as a creative outlet, to meet new people and keep in touch with old, to share what’s on my heart, {hopefully} to provide encouragement and inspiration to others!

Does the name “Delighting in Today” have any special significance?

S:  Well, I certainly wanted our name to reflect our hearts in some way, and I have really been challenged a lot lately to enjoy each day… even when you feel like every day is the same, like you’re doing nothing of significance, (which as a mom to small children I know can happen very easily)… but there is so much to delight in during these moments.  We just have to look for them.

J: Sarah suggested the name after we had tossed around lots of ideas. It just seemed to make perfect sense! I have been given each day in which I can choose to delight. Some days are easy to delight in, and others are hard. But God has given me EACH day. And EACH day is special and holds untold delights.

How did you decide to start this blog?

J: I’ve been wanting to blog since I first found out what one was about 5½ years ago (has it really been that long?!). But for various reasons, it’s just never been the right time for me to start. When Sarah asked if I’d be interested in co-blogging, I jumped at the chance! The time was right, and I was ready – so here we are!

Why blog together?

S:  I love reading blogs and thought that I would also enjoy writing one, but knowing that it could become something that would require a lot of time, I thought I’d mention it to Jenna about sharing the responsibility and see what she thought!  … and you can tell what she said because you’re reading this right now!

J: Like I mentioned, I’ve been wanting to blog for a long time, but it was never the right time. I guess Sarah knew I had a love for reading blogs (that’s where I get most of my creative ideas!), and while I was visiting her in the hospital after the birth of S, she asked if I’d want to write one together! My husband was on board with that idea because he knew we would share the burden (not the right word…..), therefore allowing me to still keep my priorities where they should be, but giving me a much needed writing and creative outlet.

How do you know each other?

S:  I met Jenna in 2007 at church not long after she had her first baby and I was about to get married!  I soon found out that we had the exact same birthday (month, day and year!) which I thought was pretty awesome.    Since I started having babies we’ve gotten to become better and better friends!

J: From church! When Sarah and Jonny tied the knot, they joined our Sunday School class which gave me the opportunity to get to know them. I’m SO glad!

Do you live close to each other?

S:  Uhhh… well, Interstate 95 connects us!  My husband and I moved from South Florida to North Carolina a few months ago, but we used to live 15 minutes away from each other.

J: Once upon a time we did. Then Sarah up and moved her sweet family. Well, maybe it’s not quite that dramatic.

What kinds of things do you two have in common?

J: For one thing, we share the same birthday! Instant connection! I’d say too – we both love coffee, finding great bargains, doing crafty and creative stuff, and serving the Lord. Oh – and foreign lands – we both have a heart for missions/people overseas. (adoption too)

What makes you different from each other?

J: I’ve never colored my hair. Ha, ha… Sarah is the “never met a stranger” type, and I’m the reserved “gotta get to know you” type. She’s lived in tons of places, and I have always called South Florida home. (I know there are more things – my brain’s tired)

What’s your favorite thing to do when you have some downtime all to yourself?

S:  Man.  This is tough because there’s SO much that I like to do!  I guess it really depends on how much “downtime” we’re talkin’ here because I’d be in Europe if you were talking like a WEEK of downtime!  … But you’re probably not.  So, I suppose I’d have to say spending time in God’s Word, reading blogs or a good book, talking to an old friend, making a new recipe, searching craiglist for a good deal, making stuff, SLEEP (I LOVE SLEEP!), taking pictures, doodling/sketching, going on a random road trip, drinking coffee, [and the list could go on for infinity!]

J: I love, love, love to read! I also like to sew or shop or swim. And I love watching good movies – especially old ones!

If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?S:  Well, I’ve got a long list of places to go on my bucket list, but if I could pack my bags and leave tomorrow, I would go to Haiti.  My sister has spent a over a year down there since the earthquake in January ’10 and I want to go and work along side her and experience her ‘world’.  I’m so proud of her.

J: Hmmm….Lately I’ve been wanting to see Hawaii {blame it on watching all 10 seasons of the old Hawaii 5-O’s via Netflix!}.

What’s your favorite Bible verse?

S:  2 Corinthians 5:21 – He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.The weight of that verse hits me every time I read it.  WOW.  What an unfair exchange.  We certainly got the better end of the deal on that… only by His grace, and by His blood.  Thank you, Jesus!

J: I’ve loved Jeremiah 29:11 for a really long time, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

I also really love I Peter 4:11, “ Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

Do you have a favorite quote?

S:  Oh my.  I’m a quote hound!  I’ve got sooooooo many that I could put here.  I’ve got books and books of quotes!  Let’s see… this is a long one, but one that literally brought me to tears the first time I read it:
What will people remember us for? Are other people’s lives better because we lived? Did we make a difference? Did we use to the fullest the gifts and abilities God gave us? Did we give our best effort, and did we do it for the right reasons? God’s definition of success is really one of significance – the significant difference our lives can make in the lives of others. This significance doesn’t show up in the win-loss records, long resumes, or the trophies gathering dust on our mantels. It’s found in the hearts and lives of those we’ve come across who are in some way better because of the way we lived. (Tony Dungy, Quiet Strength)

J: “Don’t take any wooden nickels or eat any wax fruit.” ~ A mixed quote from my grandfather and sister.

No really…. Hmm…. This one is popping into my mind…

“When you spit, they spit.” ~ Also a quote from my grandfather … in reference to the fact that people are always watching you and you lead by example. Maybe someday I’ll share the full story behind that quote.
